Welcome to Conversational Phrases!
We’ve found that the best way to learn a language is to speak it from day one! And the best way to start speaking is to learn phrases that you’ll use in real conversations.
In this lesson, you’ll learn how to ask the question, "When is your birthday?" After watching this video, you’ll be able to ask and answer about the date of an event.
Now, let’s take a look at some conversational phrases!
Listen to the dialogue.
Quand est votre anniversaire ?
C'est le 4 mars.
Once more with the English translation.
Quand est votre anniversaire ?
“When is your birthday?”
C'est le 4 mars.
“It's on March 4th.”
First of all you'll need to learn how to say "When is [event]?"
The pattern is: Quand est [event] ?
“When is [event]?”.
For example:
“When is your birthday?”
Quand est votre anniversaire ?, Quand est votre anniversaire ?
Now, how do you answer this question?
C'est le 4 mars.
“It's on March 4th.”
Listen to it again:
C'est le 4 mars., C'est le 4 mars.
This French sentence literally translates as "It's the 4 March." But it means “It's on March 4th.”.
